Murano is a series of seven islands in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy, renowned worldwide for its thousand-year tradition of glassmaking. Located about 1.5 km north of Venice, it became the global center for glass production in 1291 after the Venetian Republic ordered all glassmakers to move their furnaces there to prevent fires in the main city. Today, it remains a vibrant artisanal hub where master glassblowers continue to use centuries-old techniques like millefiori and lattimo to create intricate sculptures, chandeliers, and jewelry.
